Overview

Praveen Bhardwaj's novel follows an IPS officer who has everything rank can confer: authority, reputation, the deference of subordinates. What rank cannot confer is a settled mind. Haunted by his past and moving through his present on instinct rather than judgment, the officer makes personal decisions driven entirely by emotion — by love, by possessiveness, by a compulsion to repay old debts.

As the story accumulates — love pulling in one direction, obligation in another, the past refusing to stay where he has put it — the officer reaches a decision that he knows cannot be weighed on any ordinary scale of right and wrong. Bhardwaj does not resolve the moral question for the reader. The decision is presented as the officer experiences it: as the only available move, and possibly an irreversible one.

A compact, unsettling novel about what power leaves untouched in a person, and what emotion does to judgment when neither life nor rank has prepared you for it.

-:किताब के बारे में:- कहते हैं की इज़्ज़त, रुतबा, कामयाबी, शौहरत अपने साथ दुश्मन लेकर आती है। दुश्मन के अलावा ये सब बैचैनी को भी न्योता देती हैं। कंधों पर सितारे और छाती पर तमग़े लगाए एक आई.पी.एस. ऑफिसर व्याकुल होकर अपने अतीत को टटोलता हुआ भटक रहा है। उसी बेसब्री में वो अपने निजी फैसले केवल भावनाओं में बहकर लिए जा रहा है। प्यार, पॉसेसिवनेस और उपकार के इर्द गिर्द घूमती इस कहानी में कुछ कड़ियाँ जोड़ने के बाद, आई.पी.एस को महसूस होता है कि जीवन के संबंध बेमाने हैं। उन संबंधों के पाश को तोड़ने के लिए वह एक निर्णय लेकर चल पड़ा है। निर्णय कुछ ऐसा जिसे शायद सही और ग़लत के तराज़ू में तौल पाना संभव नहीं है।
