When Yogi Adityanath was named Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2017, the reaction from many quarters was disbelief. A monk, not an administrator — and inheriting a state whose identity had become synonymous with lawlessness, entrenched patronage networks, and economic stagnation. The skepticism was widespread and, as Shantanu Gupta documents, was proved wrong.
Gupta assembles the factual record of what changed: criminal networks that had operated with impunity found themselves under sustained pressure; industries that had avoided the state began investing; infrastructure projects moved; healthcare expanded into Bundelkhand and Purvanchal, two of the most neglected regions; and when COVID-19 struck, UP's management of the crisis drew national notice. एक ऐसा प्रदेश जो सदैव बीमारू राज्यों में गिना जाता था और जहाँ भ्रष्टाचार , भाई-भतीजावाद , परिवारवाद , और कानून का उल्लंघन उसका परिचय बन गया था। 2017 में भाजपा और उनके सहयोगी दलों की जीत के बाद योगी आदित्यनाथ के मुख्यमंत्री के तौर पर चयन ने सबको आश्चर्यचकित कर दिया था। कई ने उन्हें ' मात्र एक सन्यासी ' कह के उनकी एक कुशल प्रशासक की योग्यता पर आशंका व्यक्त की थी। किन्तु योगी आदित्यनाथ ने प्रदेश में जो बदलाव लाया , वो तथ्य झुठलाए नहीं जा सकते। चाहे वो अपराध नियंत्रण हो , जिस के तहत कई बाहुबलियों के पसीने छूट गए , या फिर प्रदेश में औद्योगिक निवेश लाना हो , योगी आदित्यनाथ ने प्रदेश में शान्ति का वातावरण तैयार किया , जिसमें महिलाएँ भी सुरक्षित महसूस करने लगीं। आधारभूत संरचनाओं की बात हो , प्रदेश में औद्योगिक निवेश को बढ़ाना हो , कोरोना को सफलतापूर्वक सम्भालना , स्वास्थय सुविधाओं को बढ़ाना--विशेषकर बुंदेलखंड एवं पूर्वांचल जैसे पिछड़े क्षेत्रों में--और चाहे मजदूरों के पलायन को यथासंभव रोक कर उन्हें राज्य में रोजगार उपलब्ध करवाना हो--इन सभी मानदण्डों पर योगी आश्चर्यजनक गति एवं दृढ़ता से प्रदेश को आगे ले गए हैं। पुस्तक इन्हीं बातों को तथ्यों के साथ पाठकों के सामने रखती है।
