BUILDING BLOCKS

bySriprakash Nadadhur Sridharan

Lessons on leadership I've learnt on my journey

Seventy leadership attributes, each grounded in real anecdotes, organised as a practical A-to-Z handbook for professional and personal life.

Overview

Leadership gets treated as something reserved for politicians, CEOs, or those who attended the right institutions. Sriprakash Nadadhur Sridharan's view, accumulated across a career of working in and observing organisations, is that this is the mistake most people make about themselves. Every person exercises leadership in some domain; the question is whether they do it consciously or by default.

This book organises Sriprakash's experience into seventy attributes — an A-to-Z framework he calls his Building Blocks — each illustrated by anecdotes drawn from his own professional and personal life. The stories are specific enough to be instructive and recognisable enough that readers can map them onto situations they have already encountered. The coverage is broad: it includes integrity, resilience, listening, delegation, self-awareness, and the ability to make decisions in the absence of complete information — attributes that matter as much outside the office as within it.

This is not theory abstracted from practice. It is a practitioner's organised memoir, meant to be read as a handbook and returned to when specific situations demand it.

ABOUT THE BOOK: There is always an awe attached to the term 'Leadership' in our country. There is a myth that leaders are always associated with politics, or an elite family, or a prestigious institute or a person in a higher position. We seldom realise that leadership is beyond these. In fact, all of us are born leaders and it is up to each one of us to discover the hidden leader in us and hone our leadership capabilities. Sriprakash has dug into his rich past and has penned down his learnings under seventy attributes of leadership (A to Z of leadership)-these were his 'Building Blocks'. As you read through these, you may be able to relate the stories he narrates with your personal as well as professional life. His endeavour has been to facilitate people to focus on the essential aspects of leadership through his stories. This compilation will support the readers in becoming effective leaders, and more importantly, in becoming better persons. This empowering 'handbook' on leadership is a must-read not just for aspiring leaders but for all who wish to apply leadership strategies in their own life to achieve greater success, happiness and effectiveness.
